Lipoedema self-test
Do I have lipoedema?
Ten questions, two minutes, instant results. The test shows you whether it is worth having your symptoms assessed by a specialist.

Why a self-test?
It often takes years to get a diagnosis
Heavy legs despite dieting, bruises out of nowhere, pain even at a light touch – many women live with this for years before anyone mentions the word lipoedema. The most common misinterpretation: a weight problem.
That is exactly where the thinking goes wrong. The disproportion between a slim torso and heavy legs is the sign that this is not simply a question of weight. The test asks about this pattern.
- Ten yes/no questions, no registration
- Results straight away on this page
- Asks about the signs specialists look for
- Does not replace a diagnosis – shows whether one is worthwhile
What matters
The pattern, not the individual sign
No single sign proves lipoedema on its own. Only the combination gives the full picture – and that is exactly what the test asks about.
Disproportion · pain · bruising
Typical: legs and arms symmetrically heavy, hands and feet slim.
- Tissue painful to pressure and touch
- Bruising even from minor knocks
- Diets work on the torso, not on the legs

The self-test
Answer the questions one after the other with yes or no. Think of how you normally feel over the past few months, not of individual days.

Your evaluation
Your “yes” answers for the signs of lipoedema: of 10
Please have this checked by a doctor: This test result is not a diagnosis. Whether you actually have lipoedema can only be determined by a personal consultation and examination by our lipoedema specialists – as specialised lipoedema practices, we are your direct point of contact for this.
This self-test is intended for orientation only and does not replace a medical diagnosis. Whether you actually have lipoedema can only be determined by a specialist examination – for example at one of our Lipo Doctors consultations.
Your results
What your result means
The three levels refer to the ten questions. The more characteristic signs apply to you, the more worthwhile it is to have them assessed by a specialist.
0–2
‘yes’ answers
Rather unlikely
Lipoedema is rather unlikely. If you still suffer from pain or swelling, have the cause investigated – vein or lymphatic problems may also be behind it.
3–5
‘yes’ answers
Possible
Lipoedema is possible but not certain. An examination by a specialist will bring clarity – especially to reliably rule out other causes such as lymphoedema or venous disease.
6–10
‘yes’ answers
Much points to it
Many characteristic signs point to lipoedema. We recommend seeing a specialised clinic – the earlier the diagnosis, the better symptoms and progression can be influenced.
Your next step
From suspicion to certainty
The self-test is a first point of orientation. The diagnosis is made clinically – through a consultation, assessment of your body proportions and a physical examination, supplemented by ultrasound if needed. Since October 2025, German statutory health insurance has covered liposuction for lipoedema in all stages (for patients insured in Germany) – provided the requirements are met, including a confirmed diagnosis by a specialist, six months of conservative therapy and a BMI of no more than 35.
The self-test is intended for orientation only and does not replace a medical diagnosis. A second indicator is your waist-to-height ratio.
