Lipoedema treatment in Wertheim

The NATIONALKLINIK is the Bürgerspital Wertheim – the only Lipo Doctors location with a full hospital service: inpatient admission is possible, and anaesthesia and intensive care are available on site around the clock. As a hospital included in the German state hospital plan, it also performs lipoedema surgery covered by German statutory health insurance.

For patients with German statutory health insurance: since the decision of the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) of 17 July 2025, liposuction for lipoedema has been covered regardless of stage, provided certain requirements are met. These include six months of documented conservative therapy, a stable weight and an upper BMI limit. In Wertheim we can then operate on you as a statutorily insured patient – you no longer need to submit an individual application to your health insurer.

The confirmed diagnosis is made by a specialist in private practice in angiology, dermatology or physical and rehabilitation medicine, or with additional qualification in phlebology – in cooperation with the Bürgerspital Wertheim.

Depending on the extent, as a day case or with one to two nights in the clinic. When covered by German statutory health insurance, treatment in stages I and II is currently performed as a day case, with a maximum of three litres of aspirated volume; in stage III, inpatient procedures are also possible.

Lipoedema surgery is performed by Dr. med. Martin Reifenrath and Prof. Dr. med. Mathias Witt, both specialists in plastic and aesthetic surgery. The team also includes Dr. med. From Wertheim station, bus 975 runs directly from the station forecourt to the stop “Reinhardshof, Nord/Krankenhaus” in about 13 minutes – the bus stops right in front of the hospital.
